Pilates

WHAT IS PILATES REHABILITATION AND MOVEMENT THERAPY?

Pilates is a comprehensive system of conditioning and rehabilitation exercises designed to improve core stability and control.  It allows for optimal movement of the major joints of the body and efficient muscle recruitment.  This system of mind-body exercises designed by Joseph Pilates is used to improve postural symmetry, increase flexibility, and correct muscles imbalances, while strengthening and elongating muscles.

By paying attention to breathing and the feeling of each exercise, you develop greater body awareness and begin to understand the intricate way the body is connected and moves.  Ultimately, by exercising in this safe, smart, and focused manner, a sense of ease and lightness emerges, chronic pain issues start to dissipate, and you feel energized!

My intensive Pilates Mat and Reformer Training and Advanced Movement and Exercise Specializations under Margot McKinnon at Body Harmonics in Toronto have provided the groundwork and biomechanical tools to enable me to teach safe exercises for people of all ages and abilities.  Small classes, semi-private and private sessions are designed and modified based on the needs of individuals.  Along with using your own body weight, resistance and balance apparatus are incorporated into the sessions to address a variety of physical issues.  Pilates is helpful for preventing and rehabilitating many conditions ranging from arthritis, chronic pain, and soft tissue injuries.
