Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is the provision of services to people and populations, to develop, maintain, and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. It includes the provision of services in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by the process of aging or that of injury or disease. The method of physical therapy sees full and functional movement as at the heart of what it means to be healthy.

OC3 is concerned with identifying and maximizing movement potential, within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Our distinctive view of the body and its movement needs and potential, is central to us determining a diagnosis and an intervention strategy. We use a variety of physical therapy modalities in combination with our Chiropractic care and Active Release, to maximize the outcome potential for each of our patients. Listed below are just a few of the types of physical therapy offerred through Ottawa Chiropractic and Collaborative Care.
Manual Therapy

Manual therapy involves the use of a hands on approach on the part of the practitioner. Techniqes such as mobilization, manipulation, and a variety of other soft tissue and joint based protocols are effectively utilized, with the goal of decreasing pain and increasing overall funtion of the affected area.
Exercise Prescription

Home based exercises are the staple of every OC3 patient’s successful recovery, and unfotunately, are often a key missing ingredient in many rehabilitation programs. These exercises can range from simple range of motion stretches, to more ellaborate proprioceptive facilitation maneuvers. Each and every exercise prescription custom tailored to the individual, and is properly demonstrated prior to their initiation.
Electrical and Mechanical Modalities

Often times, conditions require some passive based therapy in order to fully resolve. Ottawa Chiropractic and Collaborative care has an arsenal of various modalities to help decrease pain, swelling, inflammation, and muscle spasm, stimulate muscle recovery, and increase movement and strength. These include Hot and Cold Interventions, Mechanical Traction, Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TNS), Interferential Current (IFC), Muscle Stimulation (EMS), and Iontophoresis.
